The first Marqui Adora record is done!

Hell Frozen Solid!

So the record is finished, it’s six songs and we even sold copies at last nights Danny b-day concert at Studio A in Miami. A new FINISHED record and a good show with a very warm crowd response makes we three some very happy lads indeed. We ended up with a different group of songs in the end with brand new alongside very old comfortably.

And now on to the next one...

And then we became a tripod...

Chuchuchuchanges

In the last week we’ve played two very “ehhh” type of shows and parted ways with Ty. On the more positive end of things we then had a very productive practice last night. We gave ourselves an actual deadline for the record, June 22nd we should be moving on to the second batch of recordings since we should have this one laid to rest. Also last night spawned two new songs to be and we decided on three others to move along from the song demo stage they’ve been sitting in.

More Closerer to Anal Bum

Closer Still...

We’ve tracked the final vocals for Die In A Disco today and in the past couple weeks we’ve also finished up Empty and Do Anything so they’ve joined Everything That Makes No Sense in the ready to mix folder. We’ve still got Don’t Panic and Away to go so we are getting close but not quite there yet. We also might add a new song of Ash’s called White Buildings. After that we’ll mix those send ‘em out and move on to some others like Gloom, Pretty Ones, New Romance, In Motion, Blah blah.

MySpace, Practice, Studio, And Podcasting

Shit Sometimes Occurs

Finished off the studio with only a few problems to fix. We’re practicing for upcoming shows and we’ve started the first of a hopefully weekly podcast about the band and our progress.

If you want to add myspace friends sometimes it pays to use three computers. See photo.

RF, Bad Power, and I Hate Moving

Making the Buzz Stop Here

The whole losing my home base stuff stretched out for another two weeks as an “oops never-mind” then slammed right back to “gotta move in two months”. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

In other news I finally got all of the parts I ordered to make the studio work right. Speaker stands, the rotopod for the Mackie mixer, the stand for the HUI, and the raw patchbay. I had started on the cables for the patchbay even before the SHITTY MOVING EVENT so I had a good head start and have got about two thirds done so far as you can see.

When I die of lead poisoning don’t act surprised.

These two nuns are wiring a studio...

Evolution Not Intelligent Design

I started plugging things in today and found a few issues I’ll have to deal with. There is a rather angry buzz in the room that I couldn’t locate today but could just be a cable that has went to crap. I will need some form of mixer but I’m not sure which way to go yet. And the Evolver synth I have seems to be fighting with me. My battery back-up seems to have lost all of the batteryness. On the plus side I am in danger of writing a few albums if I have the time to spend in there. My fingers where begging me to keep playing and offered a mountain of melodies as a temptation so I would stop wiring or not go to work.

Stuff Is Weird...

Kids find the damnedest RSS feeds

So it seems a number of persons have subscribed to the Podcast feed I created for Marqui Adora despite the fact that I’ve only told 5 people about it. Weird huh? I guess I’ll have to let it be more widely know and see what happens.

Got iTunes?

More than a year in the making

The gig!

We haven’t played for an audience since December 17, 2004 so last nights gig was a welcome return to “the stage”, Fashionista played a good set and Ry, who was in Marqui Adora that December, proved to be a good choice for Fashionista as a new bass player.

I moved some of the studio gear to it’s new home today and began the assembly process. More to move tomorrow and then work on the record should start after a few busy days at work next week.

Packing is as packing does

Movin’ On Up

Today is the 2nd to last night I’ll be spending at the Shockley Howse so tonight I have to pack up more stuff so that on Thursday and Friday I can move it all over to Nikki’s crib. That’s a lot of studio crap and a heap of books as well to move with my pickup truck. Hopefully it will fit. Also tomorrow night is the first show for Marqui Adora since December 17th 2004. More than a year since we last played on stage. And in the last two weeks Joe had to switch back from keyboards to drums since Jeff bowed out of playing the show. ROCK AND ROLL!

So hopefully next week (work permitting) I should be back to finishing the record.

I hope...

Adventures In Podcasting

Pod People Are People Too

So at lunch today Joe and I discussed the pros and cons of being on the bleeding edge of tech stuff. In this case Podcasting was the main topic with RSS and HTML as subtopics. Joe is considering how to simplify his method of bringing The Datasound Podcast to the interwebz. We couldn’t reach a simple method for him to do the transition so he’ll likely keep it the same for the time being. This talk of podcasting did inspire me to post the remix of Only I did last year as a file on the Marqui Adora Podcast so if you like us and you like Nine Inch Nails you should go get it.

All rock no recording

Practice Makes Pre-Fect

After work Joe, Ash, and I spent a few hours rehearsing for the show we have on the first of February down in Miami. Sadly no time today for recording. In fact things look pretty dark this week with the gig and me moving as well. ROCK AND ROLL!!!!! WOOOOO!!!!!

The story so far...

Around April 2004 Joe Shockley and I had just started playing music with Ty Paff with the hope of making a really good record when we heard a bitchin’ singer through the walls of the rehearsal room next to ours...(For more info on Marqui Adora click here.)

At this point we have a lot of songs written of half written and a small group of those songs selected as our “first record.”

As of this moment our first record should include the following songs:

1-What Are You Waiting For?
We’ve only got a demo version of this song at this moment. So we still need to re-record
the entire song. Yes I said the entire song.

2-The Pretty Ones
Drums and bass guitar have been recorded all of the guitars need to be retracked (tuning
problems) and the vocals need to be recorded.

3-Die In A Disco
All of the instruments have been recorded we just need to track the final vocals.

4-Do Anything
All of the instruments have been recorded we just need to track the final vocals.

5-Away
I decided the original tempo of this one was a little fast and have since re-recorded
everything but a few of the guitar parts and the final vocals.

6-In Motion
This very simple song is vexing me. I’ve still got work to do on the drums. If they change
to much I’ll need to try the bass guitar part again and then attack the daunting task of the
guitars before Ash can give us the final vocals.

7-Empty
The most nearly finished of the bunch. We might re-track the lead vocal.

8-Don’t Panic
This one is my happy pain child. Everything has been recorded but the vocal.

9-Everything That Makes No Sense
My personal favorite of the bunch. We’ll have to tighten up the ending and add a boat load
of vocals before it’s soup.

10-(Love Hangover) name still undecided
I still have to write most of the music to this song. The nice part is I’ll be recording as I
write it.

So those are the ten songs we’ve got lined up for this album. I’ll update you on our lack of progress on an ongoing basis.
